SD and MultiMediaCards are very similar in size and design but there are some differences.
Secure Digital (SD Card)
- A 2nd generation form of the MultiMediaCard
- It has a security feature for copyright material
- An SD Card has a Write-protect switch to prevent accidental erasure of data
- SD Card is generally faster than MMC card
- An SD Card will not generally work in a MultiMediaCard device
- Currently higher capacities of SD Card are available
MultiMediaCard (MMC)
A MultiMediaCard will normally work in an SD Card slot where copyright protection is not required
MultiMediaCards are normally a lower cost option
